Our Three Favourite Bears

October the 28th is....

Plush Animal Lovers Day, This is a day of celebration that is held every year to show your favourite stuffed toy some extra special love and appreciation.

In celebration of this day we have put together a list of our three favourite teddy bears.

Paddington Bear

Paddington first appeared in 1958 in a children's book " A bear called Paddington" written by Michael Bond.
The book was inspired by a teddy bear that Michael bought as a Christmas present for his wife. They named him Paddington as they lived near Paddington station in London.

In the story Paddington was from ' Darkest Peru" and his Peruvian name is Pastuso.

He LOVES marmalade sandwiches and always keeps a spare under his hat.

There is a statue of paddington bear in you guessed it Paddington station in London.

Winnie the Pooh

Pooh first appeared in a series of short stories by AA Milne in 1926.

Winnie the Pooh was inspired by a real life Canadian bear that was found on a a train platform in white river Ontario Canada. The bear was adopted by a vet, and the sold to a Harry Coleman, who travelled with the bear as a mascot for the 2nd Canadian infantry brigade, before bringing Winnie to London Zoo in 1914.

Christopher Robbin who features in all the pooh stories, was actually A.A.Milnes son.

The Pooh part of Winnie's name was actually the name of a swan that A.A Milne and his son gave to the bird they saw on their holiday.

The hundred acre wood where pooh and his friends lived is a real place in Ashdown Forest Sussex.

Pooh also has a sweet tooth and LOVES honey

Rupert Bear.

Rupert was a comic strip character invented by the English artist Mary Tourtel. He first appeared with his yellow checked pants in 1920, he was originally created to win over rival newspaper fans to two English newspapers.

Rupert lives with his parents in a house in Nutwood a fictional idyllic English village.

Rupert has lots of friends there is Bill Badger, Edward Trunk, Podgy Pig, Willie Mouse. Then there are the Rabbit Twins, the Fox Brothers , as well as other fantastic fairy tale creatures including Dragons, Magicians, Fairies, Elves, Unicorns and Wizards.

Rupert is also fond of honey.
